FSSC 22000 is a comprehensive certification system for provides a framework for effectively managing food safety and quality responsibilities. FSSC 22000 demonstrates a company has a robust and effective food safety management system (FSMS) in place to meet the requirements of regulators, food business clients and consumers.

The Scheme documents contain requirements for organizations in the food and feed supply chain to obtain certification. They must be used by the applicant organization to evaluate, develop, implement and improve their food and food safety management system before applying for certification. The requirements of the food and food safety management system also serve as normative documents for certification of the organization.

  • The system is suitable for a various and wide range of organisations throughout the food and drink network regardless of size or complexity.
  • To ensure consumer trust in the supply of safe food and beverages including food ingredients and food packaging

Who can use FSSC 22000?

FSSC 22000 is to be used for auditing and certification of food safety systems of organizations in the food chain which process or manufacture:

  • Perishable animal products (i.e. meat, poultry, eggs, dairy and fish products)
  • Perishable vegetal products (i.e. fresh fruits and fresh juices, preserved fruits, fresh vegetables, preserved vegetables)
  • Products with long shelf life at ambient temperature (i.e. canned products, biscuits, snacks, oil, drinking water, beverages, pasta, flour, sugar, salt)
  • Biochemical (i.e. vitamins, additives and bio cultures) but excluding technical and technological aids
