What is C-TPAT?

The customers- Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a security program which has been led by U.S. Customs and border protection which primarily focuses on massively on improving the entire security of private companies supply chains to fight terrorism in the country.

Overview:

The C-TPAT is government business initiative which is voluntary. The primary purpose of its existence is to build both cooperative and social relationships which helps in improving the overall international supply chain and the security forces of the US.

C-TPAT at a very early stage had recognized that the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can provide a high level of cargo security. With proper cooperation with the relevant owners of the supply chain (which are importers, carriers, consolidators, licensed brokers of the custom, manufactures etc.) there can be a proper effective execution of the standards set.

Through this entire set up, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) asks and ensures that the business houses are properly integrating the planned security practices. The same is then communicated before which the entire set up is verified by the business partners of their respective supply chains. C-TPAT which acts as a third party ensures that the security of the supply chain is intact. It adds as a supervisor which sees and checks if everything is going as per the plan, it stressing on the quality aspect and does proper vigilance.

Most important, C-TPAT helps in improving the border security of the country.
